Little Island at Pier 54 in NYC

Must read

Not far from the Meatpacking District and the High Line, Little Island is one of the newest attractions in New York and is something very special: a park on 132 beautiful tulip-shaped concrete stilts in the Hudson River!

In this article I tell you what makes it so special (to me) and everything else you need to know about Little Island in New York!

Where is Little Island?

Little Island is located at Pier 54 which is part of Hudson River Park. You can find it at the height of 13th Street in the Meatpacking District. A great way to get there is by walking the High Line. From the Southern end, it’ll only be a 5-minute walk. After stopping at Pier 54’s Little Island you can continue your journey along the High Line all the way to Hudson Yards and the Vessel.

The rooftop bar above Standard Hotel offers you fantastic views of Little Island!

Back in 2014, Barry Diller announced his project of a futuristic cultural park along the Hudson River. The new off-shore park is anchored in the Hudson River by giant concrete pylons. Each of those pylons will be arranged at a different height giving the impression of a wave-shaped structure.

Little Island at Pier 54 extends over 2,5 acres, most of which will be covered by lush greenery. Over 35 tree species will help make Pier 54 yet another green oasis in the concrete jungle of New York City. The finished design of the pier will resemble a floating leaf on water. That is not all, however. In addition to greenery and plenty of seating areas to relax, the floating park will feature art exhibitions and community events. It is highlight is an amphitheater for live performances.
