Must read

I’m so excited to tell you all about Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth – an amazing outdoor concert event all about celebrating Black artistry and community. The heart and soul of this event are the phenomenal Black performers and allies who create and star in it. It’s a diverse showcase of Broadway talents, presenting their distinctive artistry for all to appreciate.

One of the most awaited parts of the celebration is the yearly Legacy Award, presented to remarkable Black artists who’ve made an unforgettable impact on Broadway through their outstanding community involvement and accomplishments.

When and where?

The Broadway League’s Black to Broadway Initiative have announced the date and details for this year’s event.

We’re going to be celebrating the third annual Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth concert on Sunday, June 18th from 11:00am –12:30pm. Rain or shine, Times Square is going to be buzzing with the love and energy of our community.

Hosting the event this year is the talented Michael James Scott, who I’m sure is as excited as we are! The best part? This concert is entirely free, open for everyone to join in and honor this significant day.

Who is performing?

We’ll be enjoying performances from over 25 Black artists representing a variety of Broadway shows. And guess what? We’re even getting a special sneak peek performance of the highly anticipated Broadway musical The Wiz! The Music Performance Trust Fund and Film Funds will be there too, to ensure that our day is filled with fantastic live music.

The list of Broadway shows represented at Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth is truly stellar:

Some of them just have been awarded with the Tony Award!

As a cherry on top, we’ll be treated to a special musical number performed by the talented young stars from current and recent Broadway productions.
