Booth Theatre

Must read

The Booth Theater, a complementary theater to the Shubert built in the same Italian Renaissance style, was built for the Shubert brothers and named after 19th-century actor Edwin Booth. The Booth, located at 222 West 45th Street, shares a stunning facade with the Shubert Theater, which both have elegant Venetian-inspired detailing. Three arches at the Booth Theater face north onto 45th Street, and a curved corner faces east toward Broadway.

The Booth includes 800 seats across two levels and has hosted iconic productions such as Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Sunday in the Park with George (1984), which is one of the few musicals that won the Pulitzer Prize for drama. Stars who have graced the stage at the Booth include Lily Tomlin, Bea Arthur, Paul Newman, Ralph Fiennes, Cherry Jones, Vanessa Redgrave, Kathleen Turner, Bette Midler, Kerry Washington, and Bradley Cooper. Amy Schumer made her Broadway debut at the Booth Theatre in Steve Martin’s Meteor Show (2017).
