Why are people drawn to hiking? Hiking is popular because it has many positive social and physical effects. On a trail, you can take in the fresh air and natural surroundings. Hiking enables you to unwind and re-establish contact with yourself while lowering tension, anxiety, and depression. North America is full of beautiful walks and stunning scenery, why not book onto a walking holiday and get to know other like-minded people in some of the most popular national parks in the country.

Yosemite National Park

Yosemite National Park’s top hike: Panorama Trail

Distance: 5.6 miles

Difficulty level: challenging.

Yosemite’s Panorama Trail is a scene-stealer in a park renowned for its never-ending, breath-taking views. Start at Glacier Point, a sweeping vantage point that offers a perspective of the whole Yosemite Valley, then make your way through the thundering Illilouette Falls to get the best view of Half Dome and Liberty Cap, two of the valley’s most iconic landmarks.

Grand Canyon National Park

Plateau Point is one of the best walks in Grand Canyon National Park

Distance: 12 miles

Difficulty level: challenging.

Want to visit the Grand Canyon’s interior without having to descend nearly 5,000 feet to its floor? The 1.8 billion year old sedimentary rocks that make up this fabled valley are magnificently visible from Plateau Point. Start at the Bright Angel Trailhead, travel through a 1.5-mile stretch of desert scrubland that culminates in expansive views of the red sandstone of the canyon from both above and below.

Yellowstone National Park – Mt Washburn

The Fairy Falls to Imperial Geyser hike is the one of the most popular hikes in the beautiful Yellowstone National Park.

Distance: 6.7 miles

Difficulty level: Moderate

On this wooded walk, which begins at Grand Prismatic Spring’s vibrant, iridescent rings and meanders through a thick forest to Fairy Falls’ base, which cascades 200 feet down a cliff face, you may see Yellowstone as it was in the past. At this point, you have the option of turning back or continuing on to Imperial Geyser, where they can enjoy hot, blue waters.

Glacier National Park

A hugely popular trial is the Bartlett Lake hike, which is one of the nicest walks in Glacier National Park.

Distance: 10 miles

Difficulty level: Moderate

On this all-day journey through a typical Alaskan spruce-hemlock rainforest, why not see if you can spot any salmon as they wriggle and jump upstream. Wildlife fans visiting the park in the summer might see bears, otters, and bald eagles in between sessions of glacier gazing even though there are no 360-degree views of the cold glaciers.  They can be accessed by boat or bush aircraft.
