For many, spending New Year’s Eve in New York City is a lifelong dream. Seeing the ball drop in Times Square is really something special; especially if you can see the ball drop from the comfort of your hotel!
You would usually have to be at Times Square quite early to secure a spot and see the ball drop at midnight. But there is a better option, in my opinion, to avoid the many hours you would have to wait in the cold! I’m talking about the hotels that offer a view of the ball drop!

New York Marriott Marquis: One of the best hotels with ball drop view in NYC

The popular New York Marriott Marquis offers several choices on New Years Eve. 100+ rooms have outstanding views of the ball drop on Times Square. There’s also a private party on the 8th floor which overlooks the ball drop as well. The famous restaurant The View on the 48th floor unfortunately has no views of the ball drop.

M Social Hotel Times Square New York

4 stars | Recently renovated, the M Social New York is located in Times Square in the Theatre District. Along with the Hyatt Times Square, it’s another Times Square hotel that’s one of my top 27 New York hotels with a great view. The rooms are very modern and chic and offer views of Broadway, Times Square or the Hudson River. The location makes it very desirable – yet you can sleep quietly here. This is made possible by the soundproof glazing of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
From Rockefeller Center with its viewing platform “Top of the Rock” to the famous Broadway, where you can watch the most popular musicals in New York, everything is in close proximity.

The Knickerbocker is a great hotel to watch the ball drop

The Knickerbocker is one of the hotels that is on super high demand for New Years because from the St. Cloud rooftop bar on top of the iconic hotel, you’re only 180 feet away from the ball drop on Times Square. There’s probably no better view than that.

4 Stars | The Hyatt Centric is a hotel right at Times Square New York and has a lounge on the roof and really nice rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows. So you have a wonderful view of the city. The rooms on the upper floors are absolutely stunning!

You’ll feel right at home at the Renaissance New York Times Square Hotel!

4 stars | There are not one but several hotels within a few blocks of the Doubletree By Hilton New York Times Square. In my opinion, the “Times Square West” is the best of the bunch. From the upper rooms you have a great view of the city and there is even a roof terrace.

The Chatwal, a Luxury Collection Hotel

The famous ball drop is not to be seen from the “standard” rooms. However, The Chatwal has one suite featuring a terrace from where you can have a partial view of the New Year’s Eve Ball Dropping. The Suite is one of their Junior King Suite with Terrace Specialty Suites called The Zen Suite, and from the terrace, you can find a spot on the left corner facing south to have a view of just the Ball Drop in between the adjacent buildings.
